Bunny Crochet Introduction

Materials

You can choose any colors you like for your bunny, below is my choice for you as a reference. Looking for the best yarn for amigurumi project? Read the post about my best yarn for amigurumi to find out more.

• Sport yarn with colors: cream, dark green, light green, and lime.
• Hook: Size 2.3mm.
• Scissors.
• Pins and needles for sewing. 
• One pair of safety eyes size 10mm. Or thread with colors: black, white for embroidering eyes.
• Pompom maker.
• Stuffing (polyfill, cotton wool, etc.).

Abbreviations

This pattern is written using US TERM. For beginners, please refer to this post to learn about all basic crochet stitches for beginners.

• Rnd/Rnds: Round/ Rounds
• MR: magic ring (magic circle)
• Ch: chain stitch
• Sc: single crochet stitch
• Inc: Single crochet increase
• Dec: Single crochet decrease
• FLO: Front loop only
• BLO: back loop only
• St/ sts: Stitch/ Stitches
• […] … x time: Repeat instructions x times
• (…): Number of stitches of each round

Notes

• Make Invisible Decrease crochet stitches to have a better result.
• The finished size is approx ~20 cm.
• Work in a continuous spiral.

Bunny Crochet Free Pattern

In order to make a beautiful bunny, you might want to read some basic crochet tutorials here. This bunny crochet free pattern is simple and easy to follow, even for beginners.

Recommended easy pattern to crochet for beginners. You might need to check out my basic crochet stitches tutorial.

Arms (x2)

Start with light green yarn

• Rnd 1: sc 6 into MR (6sts)
• Rnd 2: inc 6 (12sts)
• Rnd 3: [sc 3, inc] 3 times (15sts)
• Rnd 4: sc 15 (15sts)

Change to dark green yarn.

To make the cuff: leave a long tail before joining the yarn (enough for 12sts ~ 40cm), or you can join yarn later.

Right arm

• Rnd 5: dec 3, sc 9 (12sts)

Put the dark green tail to the front.

• Rnd 6: BLO, dec, sc 10 (11sts)

* Stuff the arm firmly, stuffing as you work (the top of the arm needs less stuffing than the bottom)

• Rnd 7-12 (6rnds): sc 11 (11sts)

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

Left arm

• Rnd 5: sc 9, dec 3 (12sts)
• Rnd 6: BLO, sc 10, dec (11sts)

* Stuff the arm firmly, stuffing as you work (the top of the arm needs less stuffing than the bottom)

• Rnd 7- 12 (6rnds): sc 11 ( 11sts)
• Rnd 13: sc 9 (9sts)

Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

To make the cuff: use the dark green tail from round 5, make sure the light green part is facing you and do: 1ch, FLO sc 12 (12sts) (img.1)

LEGS (x2)

Start with cream yarn

• Rnd 1: sc 6 into MR (6sts)
• Rnd 2: inc 6 (12sts)

Change to light green yarn. 

• Rnd 3: BLO, [sc, inc] 6 times (18sts)
• Rnd 4-5 (2rnds): sc 18 (18sts)
• Rnd 6: sc 5, dec 4, sc 5 (14sts)
• Rnd 7: sc 5, dec 2, sc 5 (12sts)
• Rnd 8-13 (6rnds): sc 11 (11sts)

* Stuff the leg firmly, stuffing as you work (the top of the leg needs less stuffing than the bottom)

Right leg

* Place the safety eyes between round 10 and 11. The distance between two eyes is 8 stitches. Stuff the head.

Stuff the body. Fasten off. Leave a long tail for sewing.

To make the hem: join dark green yarn to the remaining loops of round 10, make sure the neck is facing you and do: FLO sc 42 (42sts)

• Rnd 5: [sc, inc] 6 times (18sts)
• Rnd 6: [sc 5, inc] 3 times (21sts)
• Rnd 7-13 (7rnds): sc 21 (21sts)
• Rnd 14: [sc 5, dec] 3 times (18sts)
• Rnd 15: [sc, dec] 6 times (12sts)

Do not stuff the ears, leave a long tail for sewing.

Tail

Use cream yarn and pompom maker size 3.8- 4mm to make a pompom. (img.5)

Scarf

Start with cream yarn, work in row.

• Rnd 1: ch 100, sc into the 2nd chain from the hook, sc 98, ch 1, turn (99sts)

Change to lime yarn.

• Rnd 2: sc 99 (99sts)

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

• Use cream yarn and pompom maker size 2mm to make 2 small pompoms. Leave a long tail for sewing.
• Sew the pompoms to the scarf. (img.6)

Assembly

• Embroider the eyes if you don’t use safety eyes.
• Sew the eyebrows over the eyes.
• Sew the nose between the eyes. 
• Sew the body to the head.
• Sew the legs to the body from round 6 to round 10.
• Sew the ears to the head from round 3 to round 5.
• Sew the tail to the back at round 8 of the body.

Congratulation! You have done the bunny.
