Fox Crochet Pattern: Getting Started

Materials

You can choose any colors you like for your bunny, below is my choice for you as a reference. Looking for the best yarn for amigurumi project? Read the post about my best yarn for amigurumi to find out more.

• Sport yarn (or find these amigurumi yarn) with colors: white, blue, orange, black, cyan.
• Hook size 2.3 mm or try with these hooks.
• Scissors, pins and needles. (crochet tool kit for beginners) (or find these)
• Stuffing (polyfill, cotton wool, etc.).

Abbreviations

This pattern is written using US TERM. For beginners, please refer to this post to learn about all basic crochet stitches for beginners.

• Rnd/R: Round/Row
• MR: magic ring (magic circle)
• Ch: chain stitch
• Ss: slip stitch
• Sc: single crochet stitch
• Inc: single crochet increase
• Dec: single crochet decrease
• BLO: back loop only
• FLO: front loop only
• Dc: Double crochet stitch
• FPC: Front post double crochet stitch
• BPC: Back post double crochet stitch
• St/ sts: Stitch/ Stitches
• […] … x time: Repeat instructions x times
• (…): Number of stitches of each round
• {…}: Work instructions within brackets into the same stitch

Notes:

• Finished size is 10 cm (~4 inches) (sport yarn)
• Gauge: 28 sts and 30 rows (10cm x 10cm)
• Make invisible decrease crochet stitches to have a better result.
• Work in a continuous spiral unless otherwise specified.

Legs

(use orange yarn)

Left leg

• Rnd 1: sc 6 into MR (6sts)
• Rnd 2: sc 2, inc 2, sc 2 (8sts)
• Rnd 3: sc 2, inc, sc, inc, sc 3 (10sts)
• Rnd 4: sc 3, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 3 (12sts)
• Rnd 5: sc 5, inc, sc, inc, sc 4 (14sts)

Fasten off.

Right leg

• Rnd 1: sc 6 into MR (6sts)
• Rnd 2: sc 2, inc 2, sc 2 (8sts)
• Rnd 3: sc 2, inc, sc, inc, sc 3 (10sts)
• Rnd 4: sc 3, inc, sc 2, inc, sc 3 (12sts)
• Rnd 5: sc 5, inc, sc, inc, sc 4 (14sts)

Ch 1, do not fasten off.

* To make the hem: use cyan yarn, join to the remaining loop of round 9 of the body. Make sure the legs are facing you and do: FLO sc 36 (36sts)(image.3)

* To make the collar: use cyan yarn, join to the remaining loop of round 13 of the body. Work in row:

• R1: FLO, ch 2, dc 48, ss to the 1st st (48sts)
• R2: ch 2, [BPC, FPC] 24 times, ss to the 1st st (48sts) (image.4-5)

Fasten off, weave in.

Ears

(use white yarn – make 2)

• Ch 2, work in row, ch 1 at the end of each row and turn
• R1: sc into the 2nd chain from the hook (1st)
• R2: {sc 3} (3sts)
• R3: inc, sc, inc (5sts)

Fasten off.

(use orange yarn – make 2)

• Ch 2, work in row, chain 1 at the end of each row and turn
• R1: sc into the 2nd chain from the hook (1st)
• R2: {sc 3} (3sts)
• R3: inc, sc, inc (5sts)

Do not fasten off.

Place the white one on the orange one and sc around, ch 2 at each corner. (image.6)

Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew.

(start with blue yarn, change to white yarn on BOLD stitches)

• Ch 7, and stitches are now working on both sides of the foundation chain.
• Rnd 1: inc into the 2nd chain from the hook, sc 3, sc, {sc 4}, sc 4, inc (16sts)
• Rnd 2: inc 2, sc 4, inc 4, sc 4, inc 2 (24sts)
• Rnd 3-4(2 rounds): sc 24 (24sts)
• Change to black yarn
• Rnd 5: BLO, ss 24 (24sts)

Fasten off, leave a long tail to sew.

Arms

Start with orange yarn (make 2)

• Rnd 1: sc 6 into MR (6sts)
• Rnd 2-3 (2 rounds): sc 6 (6sts)
• Change to cyan yarn
• Rnd 4-6 (3 rounds): sc 6 (6sts) 

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Assembly

• Sew the ears to the body from round 29.
• Sew the tail to the back.
• Use white yarn to embroider some cross stitches on the sweater.

Two options for you to finish the style you love

• Sew the arms to the body at round 13 and embroider the face
• Sew the visor to the body from round 25.
