Crochet Dinosaur Free Pattern
Check my post about the best yarn for amigurumi to find which brand yarn I recommend for use to have better results. Don’t skip this post if you are a beginner and looking for suitable brand yarns for the next amigurumi projects.
Materials
- Medium weight yarn #4 with colors: blue, white, yellow, pink. (I used Himalaya Everyday Super Lux with color codes: #73405, #73401, #73420)
- Hook size 3.5 mm. (I recommend this Hamanaka hook, have a view at this hooks set you might be interested in.)
- Scissors, pins, and needles. Fiberfill stuffing.
- One pair of safety eyes size 16 mm.
- Optional: the fabric to make a pillow insert.
Abbreviations
This pattern is written using US TERM. For beginners, please refer to this post to learn about all basic crochet stitches for beginners.
- MR: magic ring (magic circle)
- Ch: chain stitch
- Ss: slip stitch
- Sc: single crochet stitch
- Inc: single crochet increase
- Dec: single crochet decrease
- BLO: back loop only
- FLO: front loop only
- Hdc: half double crochet
- Dc: double crochet
- […] … x time: Repeat instructions x times
- (…): Number of stitches of each round
- {…}: Work instructions within brackets into the same stitch
Pattern notes
- Finished size is approx 24×22 cm. (want to make a larger size? I recommend trying with this kind of bulky yarn or this super bulky yarn)
- For a better result, use single crochet cross stitch (yarn under) and invisible crochet decrease stitch.
- Work in a continuous spiral unless otherwise specified.
- Only do “BLO” for stitches were written in the bracket ().

Start with blue yarn, change to white yarn on BOLD stitches
- Ch 56, and stitches are now working on both sides of the foundation chain
- 1: sc into the 2nd chain from the hook, sc 53, inc, sc 32 (on the other side of the foundation chain)(image.2), sc 13, sc 9 (110)
- 2: sc 55 (image.1), sc into both layers (image.3), sc 31 into front layer only (image.4), sc 15, sc 8 (110)

Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.
Lip
Turn the body and make sure the head is facing you. Join blue yarn into the remaining loops of the body at round 32 and do
- FLO: Ch 1, sc, hdc, {2dc}, hdc, sc, ss, sc, hdc, {2dc}, hdc, sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
* Place the safety eyes between round 32 and 33 about 4 stitches from the first and last stitch of the lip.
* Optional: make a pillow insert that fits with the length and width of the dinosaur.
- Stuff the tail, then get the insert (or stuffing) into the pillow cover. Sew to close the opening (last edge).
- Sew the tongue at round 30, under the lip.
- Sew the hands at round 24.
- Sew the legs at round 4.
- Sew the spikes in order from piece 1 to 4
- Embroider 3 blue stripes on the belly.
